PARTNERSHIPS

The science of plant breeding and bringing new products to market requires partnerships. In the case of oats, there are seed bank workers, seed companies, farm organizations, oat growers, agronomists, grain terminal organizations, transportation groups, oat mills and oat processors, and our consumers.

We have been connecting with all of these groups in various ways. Insights, guidance, opinions, encouragements, cooperation, and financial support have all been part of the recipe that has allowed us to begin and become a meaningful part of the oat industry.

We are thankful to these groupings and organizations:

  • The various oat breeders and plant breeders in Canada and around the world

  • Plant Gene Resources of Canada

  • Our Families

  • Kubota

  • Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada

  • University of Saskatchewan

  • SeCan

  • Richardson Milling

  • Oat researchers from around the world

  • Agronomists

  • The Prairie Oat Growers Association and all its members

  • Seed Depot

  • Farm Media

  • General Mills

  • The Seed Growers of western Canada

  • Grain Millers

  • Paterson Grain

  • Our many seed company contacts

Certified Seed Sales Partners

The bulk of funding for the operation of Oat Advantage now comes from certified seed sales. Royalties are a percentage of that seed sale, and the funds are passed on through oat seed growers by the distributor (currently SeCan and Seed Depot) to Oat Advantage. We are grateful for the excellent work of Oat seed growers and the service they provide to the farming community. We see the value of the high quality product that they produce and sell and we heartily support purchasing your seed often through these fine sellers of our Oat Advantage oat varieties.

Farm Saved Seed Partners - Oat Advantage Oat Research Support

please consider supporting oat research if you used your Oat Advantage farm saved seed 〰️

Budgets, economics, and convenience sometimes requires the use of your own Oat Advantage saved seed. This is acceptable to us; we are glad that our oat varieties make sense for your farm. We also appreciate that nearly all oat growers across western Canada allow a small portion of payment from their delivered oat grain at harvest to go toward the Prairie Oat Growers Association (POGA). Some of these funds are directed by POGA to go back into oat research and Oat Advantage is one of three oat breeding programs in western Canada that receives some of those funds.

We are also asking for your direct oat research support. If you used farm saved seed and you had a “Wow!” factor at harvest, we would ask you to consider making a contribution of 50 cents an acre, from that field, to our oat breeding cause.

Why? Well, we work on many oat projects and targets for the oat grower that simply don’t receive funding.

Again, Thank you to all growers who seed our varieties!! We are all working toward creating a better and more valuable oat industry, from beginning to end.

 Sincerely,

Jim & Laura-Lee Dyck
